Spring! Give Us Not to Think So Far Away

A Prayer In Spring – Poem by Robert Frost

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;

And give us not to think so far away

As the uncertain harvest; keep us here

All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,

Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;

And make us happy in the happy bees,

The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird

That suddenly above the bees is heard,

The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,

And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,

The which it is reserved for God above

To sanctify to what far ends He will,

But which it only needs that we fulfil.

The spring always seems to be a good time to take stock and to contemplate change, while focusing on the present moment and immediate beauty…as everything seems to be coming up new around us, especially after a particularly long and cold winter!!

Sometimes when we look back over where we have been, we can appreciate best what we have learned and think about what we would like to share with those around us.

I know my three boys have been some of the best teachers that I could have asked for, and in looking .back, I noticed that my patience with them has certainly increased with practice…just like any other practiced skills!! They keep me focused in the present moment and on the things that are most important to our values and happiness.

What can you offer to those around you to make the world a better place? Who brings out the very best in you? What beauty will arrive in spring that makes you walk a little  happier?
